Publisher's Description

Ari Marcopoulos' new photobook Denied brings together his outstanding view of photography. It's his intimate, natural, and almost cinematic understanding of the overlapping meanings when the images are lined up. A diary-like record of work, travel, and artistic collaboration, this book, like all Marcopoulos works, is a testimony of the ''now'' moment in which we live, where ''now'' is another time and place. It is also a testimony of an inextricable relationship with the city Athens.

Athens is where Marcopoulos vacationed as a child and visited his relatives. He was taken by his uncle to see a match for the soccer team Olympiacos. He thought the stadium resembled an ancient Greek stadium, simply replacing the marble bleachers with concrete stands and planting groomed turf on a pitch that used to be earthen ground. This Marcopoulos photobook evokes memories of these two aspects of Athens. Now, in this city, affluence is hidden in only a few districts, and the rest are collapsing.
