These never published photographs date from about 1910 to 1914, and were made by one of pre-revolutionary Russia's celebrated writers. Made using the Autochrome color process, these photographs present a fascinating look at Russian life that until now has been known to us only through the dramas of Chekhov; a world that was comfortable, beautiful, and soon to disappear. Carlisle, who is Andreyev's granddaughter, contributes a text recording her family memories.
